And so begins week 2!

I have been feeling rushed and stressed the past couple of days due to late starts, so I decided to wake up early (4:45am), and was able to get a bunch of work done this morning. That felt excellent, and it didn’t take away from family time since no one else was up yet. Then I headed to the grocery store to buy what we needed for breakfast (and the next couple of days). Who knew that 8:00am was the best time to go to Trader Joe’s? It probably helped that it is Memorial Day, too. It was extremely empty, and I did all my shopping in half the time!

Before we ate breakfast, we decided to do a one-week weigh-in. To date, I have lost 3.5 pounds, and Cory has lost 5 pounds. At first I was disappointed in my weight loss, since other people have been having their biggest weight loss jumps in the first week (many of my friends are down 10 pounds in the first week). But then I realized that I lost 3.5 pounds in one week! That’s pretty amazing! In reality (although I am trying new recipes), these are very similar foods to what I normally eat (minus my horrible addiction to cheese), and we’ve been eating more food that I normally eat. So, 3 pounds is pretty darn good. Additionally, I had to remind myself that this program is NOT about weight loss. This program is about cleansing the digestive system, detoxifying, and resetting my food/eating habits (which I needed). It’s all a matter of perspective, and I needed to remember what this is all about.

This week begins Phase 2, which means we start the new Detox supplement. It reminds me a lot of the fiber sweep from the 3 Day Refresh (similar in taste, but not as thick). It is a nice addition to the day. I like the sweetness it adds before meals, and it helps with making me feel full. Cory still likes the Power Greens better (he is CRAZY).

Although I know we lessen our food this week, I didn’t feel hungry at all throughout the day. We started with a fresh fruit platter. The directions were a little vague, and I couldn’t tell exactly how much fruit to use (1 cup total, or 1 cup of each of the foods), but I was finally able to find the answer – 1 cup of EACH. Holy moly that is a lot of fruit, and I am sure my bowels will feel that later! Regardless, the fruit was all so delicious, we couldn’t figure out which one we liked the best. It usually was whatever one we were eating at the time. It was a LOT of sweetness, though.

Then I spent a bunch of time preparing food for the next couple of days. I needed the make the salad dressings, and condiments that we use (Nori seasoning, toasted pumpkin seeds, etc…) throughout the week. I also made some homemade veggie broth to be able to use in the soup for dinner tomorrow. The kitchen smelled wonderful, and it felt good getting it all done. Cory was outside in the yard working on things, so we were feeling very 1960’s-domestic (male in yard doing physical labor, female in the kitchen cooking).

My well-laid plan of being on a better schedule with food was ditched when we left to run errands. We ended up eating lunch late, and everything for the day was postponed a few hours. I just wasn’t feeling the salad for lunch today, so I fell back on Shakeology. However, I was wanting more veggies (to balance out my fruit this morning), so I threw in some spinach in addition to the avocado. Because we were later in the day with our food, we skipped snack, and ended up just eating dinner at a reasonable time. It worked out nicely. The pinto beans and rice were a BIG hit with the kiddos, and they loved the steamed green beans (we usually just eat them raw, so this was new for them). Rhys was bummed there wasn’t enough rice and bean for him to have seconds. Interestingly, he has not been reacting to any of the foods that we’ve been eating on the Reset (he is usually allergic to most legumes).

The day was mostly filled with chores, cooking, and yard work. I know we are late to the game, but we finally planted our garden! We usually do it on Mother’s Day (as my present), but we just weren’t prepared this year. However, it’s planted now! We just didn’t troubleshoot all the hoses for watering (some areas are not getting wet), but were were too tired and wanted to eat, so it will have to wait until tomorrow.

One thing I noticed this morning, is that both Cory and I have been grumpier and more stressed the last couple of days. Short tempered with the kids and each other. I have also been extremely tired (like I want to lie down and take a nap throughout the day, kind of tired). I think I didn’t notice while it was happening, but noticed today because I was feeling better. I don’t know if that’s end-of-the-term school-related stress, or if it is Reset-related. Regardless, I have been feeling better today. Digestive-wise (warning TMI), I have felt like I needed to go to the bathroom most of the evening, but haven’t been able to. I am sure it is fruit-related.

We finished off our day with a great fast-walk tonight. It was nice to get out and get active, and spend some time together alone. I’ll take what I can get these days!

Staying strong for now!
