It’s not about the INTENSITY, it’s about the CONSISTENCY….
For those who don’t know my story, I had brain surgery just over a year ago to remove a tumor, and then in the aftermath and recovery, discovered that I have multiple sclerosis. Between these two health events, my exercise is limited.
– I can’t jump
– I can’t run
– I can’t invert (have head below heart, and even at the same level bothers me)
– I am out of breath quickly
This means whenever I exercise, there are a LOT of modifications (push-ups on my knees, upright mountain climbers, coming up to my toes instead of a full jump), and somedays all I can do is manage a walk.
For the first nine months, this all bothered me. However, I’ve embraced it these last three months, and have started to feel empowered just learning the level I am at – discovering my new normal.
What I can’t do in intensity, I decided to make up for with consistency. I can promise myself to show up everyday, make choices to fuel my body with nutrition that is good for me, move to make myself feel better, and try my hardest to keep a positive outlook.
Curious about my results?
+ I lost a total of 8 pounds (5 in the first three weeks, and 3 in the final three weeks)
+ I lost a total of 8 inches (measured at various places around my body)
But more importantly:
+ I gained a feeling of accomplishment in taking care of myself
+ I gained confidence (I hold my head up higher, shoulders back, with a smile)
+ I feel good about myself, and the decisions I’ve made to get here (never starving myself, never depriving myself, and never harping on myself for what I could or could not do that day
Live your life to make yourself proud. Eat to make yourself feel great from the inside out. Move to celebrate that you can!
